William Max Polon

2009 Manitoba Canola Choice Award Recipient – William Max Polon

William Max Polon Max Polon holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Degree (Lieutenant Governor’s Gold Medal recipient) from the University of Manitoba. He assumed responsibility for the family farm in 1969 while being employed part-time by the Special Programs Branch of the Manitoba Department of Education.

Max began farming full time in 1980 and presently operates the family farm and pedigreed seed business.

He has served on a number of grain related organizations, including director and president of the Manitoba Canola Growers Association, director and Chairman of the Canadian Canola Growers Association, and director and Chairman of the Canola Council of Canada.  In 1994, Max was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in the Canola Council of Canada. Max became a member of the Western Canada Canola/Rapeseed Recommending Committee at its inception and served as Chairman for five years. He has also served on the Western Grains Standards Committee and as a director of the Manitoba Branch of the Canadian Seed Growers Association.

Max is a founding director of Canterra Seeds Ltd., a western Canadian seed company begun in 1996.
