Report

Research Objective

  • Identify new sources of resistance for the 5X pathotype which has recently been discovered

Project Description

Although many canola varieties today are resistant to clubroot, new pathotypes (strains) of clubroot are emerging, such as the pathotype 5X and erosion of resistance. Therefore, it is very important to continue to identify sources that will be resistant to new pathotypes. 845 new canola lines were tested for resistance to pathotype 5X, and approximately 31 showed possible resistance to the new 5X pathotype. In the end, more than ten lines were identified as highly resistant to the pathotype 5X, as well as others 3A, 2B, and 3D. The identification of these new sources of pathotype resistance will benefit futures lines of canola developed and future genetic resistance research.
